Getting Settled

Getting Settled

Well, we’re here. It seemed like the longest travel day of my life, but we made it in to our new home Monday evening. So far, we’ve been on a crazy schedule, trying to get the things we need, forgetting a few items, and then going back to the store for the things we forgot, only to make it home and realize we need something else. The dogs made it in today! They had an even longer travel schedule than…

“Let us step out into the night and pursue that flighty temptress, adventure.”

Somehow, after 11 months of waiting for this day, it’s here. As romantic and wonderful as moving to Spain sounded to me eleven months ago, we now face the adventure we signed up for knowing that it’s not all rainbows and butterflies. We went through hell and back to get what we wanted with this move, and we’re still fighting on a daily basis to get all of the moving parts that are involved in this kind of adventure working…

Year One

Year One

A year ago, I dressed up in a pretty dress and my husband asked me if I could wear it every day since I looked so beautiful. I was surrounded by family and friends on a beautiful day. I had fun walking around my favorite city with my husband while we just so happened to have some wonderful photos taken of ourselves. We ate wonderful food and danced. And our wedding wasn’t perfect. It was far, far from perfect. But…

House Hunting: Our House!!

House Hunting: Our House!!

Are you ready?? I won’t waste any time talking because I know you’ll just scroll to the pictures anyway. Without further ado…our house! A beautiful pool!! Don’t you just want to take a dip now? I know I do! It’s actually a salt-water pool, and it’s unheated, so we’re contemplating getting a solar cover to warm it up a bit on sunnier days. Two olive trees are also on the property, which Mike immediately asked the homeowner if she had…

House Hunting, Part 2

House Hunting, Part 2

Of the 11-12 houses we saw, three really stood out. First, there was the ultra, super awesome modern house that was ridiculously out of place in the Spanish countryside. Literally, there was a donkey next door and a 100-year old stone house crumbling across the street. I can’t imagine what the neighbors thought of this thing. We thought it was awesome. But…it was under construction. While the agent showing it to us said that it could be finished by the…

House Hunting, Part 1

House Hunting, Part 1

Even though house hunting was the very last part of the trip, I’m too excited to hold off any longer on telling you about our experience house hunting around Ferrol, Spain. We had just two days to look at houses, and our realtor/consultant and I found 12 or 13 properties for us to see over the course of those two days. We were in for two very intense days, but thankfully since it was the third week of our vacation,…

Home Again

Home Again

Why Helllooo! Long time no talk, readers! It’s been a very long three weeks while we’ve been in Spain, Andorra and France, and we are very happy to be home. We got in to Philly Saturday night, had Sunday to take a breath, restock the fridge, cuddle with the dogs, and then today…today the movers come and will start moving out all of our belongings over the next week. Scary how time flew by just like that. I’m so excited…

In Mandy’s Shoes: From Jess at Fearlessly Free

To round off all of my guest posts, I’m thrilled to introduce one of my bff’s and one of my bridesmaids, Jess! She’s been staying at our house watching the dogs while we’ve been gone and will take up residency with her fiance, Chris in our home while we live in Spain. We’re so grateful to them for watching Wrigley and Zoe for three weeks, and it’s so funny to read this post about her experiences living in our home!…

Tomato & Fennel Soup: from Amy at Parker Haus Roles

I’m so glad to have Amy from Parker Haus Roles on today to guest blog! I had never heard of volumetrics before she introduced everyone to it on her blog, but it definitely makes sense and Mike and I have actually been doing that ourselves for a long time! We’re big soup eaters in our household and we’ll definitely be giving this recipe a try! Mandy and Mike prefer wine, Matt and I prefer beer but we all share a…

Guest Post: Elizabeth from Clementine and Clover

Guest Post: Elizabeth from Clementine and Clover

I’m loving this post from Elizabeth from Clementine and Clover! Since Mike and I have been on a healthier lifestyle track for awhile now, I’m always looking for tips on how to improve our routines in a manageable way. Elizabeth definitely makes it seem manageable with these three tips! I think of the word diet and almost shudder. The word, to me, has such negative connotations: Visions of tasteless shakes, overly-skinny models, and endless baggies of zero-calorie celery dance in my…
